Benefits of Quality Care

In your child’s first 5 years their brain will develop more than any other time in their life. The care they receive during this time will shape how they learn and grow.  Research shows that children from birth to age five who receive high quality care and education do better in school, are more likely to graduate high school, and are more likely to be successful in their careers.

Quality matters. When you choose high quality care, you are putting your child on a path to success.

High quality early care and education matters for all of us:

  • Children who attend quality early education programs earn up to $2,000 more a month later in life.
  • Children who attend preschool are less likely to repeat grades, need special education, or get in trouble with the law.
  • Children from low-income families who attend preschool are 4.6 times more likely to get a college degree.
  • (Add re: $1 to $13)
  • (Add re: societal issues)

Currently over 140 child care centers, preschool programs, and family child care programs in Santa Barbara County voluntarily participate in Quality Counts. These programs are committed to quality improvement and go beyond regulatory licensing requirements to support the infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in their care by providing a strong foundation for school readiness and beyond.
